MSU Workshop Info

The workshop will take place on June 8th-12th at Michigan State University. This page contains logistical information pertaining to the workshop.

Stipend Information

Participants will receive a $1,500 stipend to support their participation in the Courses to Careers workshop. Stipend paperwork will be completed on the first day of the workshop, and payment will be processed after the workshop begins. Please note that stipends may take several weeks to process and be mailed or distributed through the MSU payment system.

Participants are responsible for arranging and paying for their own travel, lodging, and related expenses. Unfortunately, we are not able to pre-pay travel costs or provide direct travel reimbursement. The stipend is intended to help offset these expenses.

Location Information

The workshop will be held on Michigan State University’s campus, at the STEM building in Room 2202. The STEM building is located on the northwest corner of Shaw Lane and Red Cedar Road, and is directly southeast of the football stadium. Room 2202 is located on the 2nd floor on the north side of the building (along Red Cedar Road towards the stadium).

STEM building address:  642 Red Cedar Rd, East Lansing, MI 48824

Room:  STEM 2202

Unfortunately, there is a great deal of construction on various roads, sidewalks, and buildings on campus during the summer. Be careful using google maps or any similar app on campus, as we have found that they can sometimes not take into account current road and sidewalk closures. Below, we provide recommendations for nearby paid parking and free parking with an estimated ~15-20 minute walk. We also offer directions to these two options based on if you are approaching from the north, south, east, or west borders of campus.

Parking Information

  • Parking options we recommend:
    • Paid parking close to the STEM building in lot 79: Lot 79 costs $2 per hour via pay-by-plate, but has accessible parking and is located right next to the STEM building, where the workshop is being held.
    • Free parking parking with an estimated ~15-20 minute walk in lot 83: For free parking, MSU offers lots 15, 83, 89, and 91 to the public during the summer. Of these, the closest to the STEM building is 83, which is estimated as a 15-20 minute walk away.
  • Directions to lot 79 ($2 per hour, paid parking) and the STEM building:
    • If you are coming from the north via Grand River Avenue: take Grand River to Farm Lane, which is directly east of the Eli Broad Museum (the large, very modern-looking silver building on Grand River Ave). Take Farm Lane to Shaw Lane (0.5 miles), where you’ll turn right. Take Shaw Lane to lot 79 (0.4 miles), which will be on your right, directly South of the MSU football stadium. The STEM building is adjacent to lot 79.
    • If you are coming from the east via Hagadorn Road: take Hagadorn until you reach Shaw Lane, and turn on Shaw Lane to enter campus (there is a brick/stone sign for the campus at this intersection). Take Shaw Lane to lot 79 (1.2 miles), which will be on your right, directly South of the MSU football stadium. The STEM building is adjacent to lot 79.
    • If you are coming to campus from the south via Mt. Hope Avenue: take Mt. Hope to Harrison Road. Take Harrison Road to Shaw Lane (0.5 miles), and turn right. Take Shaw Lane to Lot 79 (0.4 miles), which will be on your left, directly South of the MSU football stadium. The STEM building is adjacent to lot 79.
    • If you are coming to campus from the west via US-127: take US-127 until you reach exit 9 for Trowbridge Road. After taking the exit, take Trowbridge Road to Harrison Road (0.3 miles), where you’ll turn left. Take Harrison Road to Shaw Lane (0.4 miles), where you’ll turn right. Take Shaw Lane to Lot 79 (0.4 miles), which will be on your left, directly South of the MSU football stadium. The STEM building is adjacent to lot 79.
  • Directions to lot 83 (free parking):
    • If you are coming from the north via Grand River Avenue: take Grand River to Harrison Road. Turn onto Harrison and stay on it until you reach Service Road on your left just after the train tracks (1.4 miles). Turn here, and lot 83 will be on your left (0.3 miles).
    • If you are coming from the east via Hagadorn Road: take Hagadorn until you reach Service Road, and turn onto it. Stay on Service Road until you reach lot 83 on your right (1.4 miles).
    • If you are coming to campus from the south via Mt. Hope Avenue: take Mt. Hope to Harrison Road. Follow Harrison Road until you reach Service Road, just before the train tracks (0.5 miles). Turn here, and lot 83 will be on your left (0.3 miles).
    • If you are coming to campus from the west via US-127: take US-127 until you reach exit 9 for Trowbridge Road. After taking the exit, stay on Trowbridge until you reach Harrison Road (0.3 miles), where you’ll turn right. Go across the train tracks and look for Service Road on your left (0.1 miles). Once on Service Road, lot 83 will be on your left (0.3 miles).
  • Directions for the walk from lot 83 to the STEM building:
    • Once parked at lot 83, head north and cross the train tracks (there should be a little gate and walking path near the northwest corner of the lot).
    • After crossing the train tracks, cross Trowbridge Road (you should see a basketball court beside a large dormitory called Holden Hall straight ahead).
    • Take the slight right up the sidewalk (so that the basketball court will be on your left), and follow this sidewalk to reach Chestnut Road, where you’ll turn left.
    • Follow Chestnut Road north until you reach Shaw Lane, where you’ll turn right (you should see the MSU football stadium sign).
    • Cross Shaw Lane so that you are on the football stadium side of Shaw lane.
    • Follow this sidewalk until you reach the STEM building on your left, just southeast of the stadium on the northwest corner of Red Cedar Road and Shaw Lane.
